Intended Use
This kit is used for the qualitative detection of monkeypox virus (MPV) in serum or lesion exudate samples.
Introduction of Mpox
Mpox (formerly monkeypox) is a viral zoonotic disease caused by MPV, which is a double-stranded DNA virus with an envelope, belonging to the Poxviridae family which also includes other notable viruses such as variola, cowpox, and vaccinia.
MPV can be transmitted between people through direct contact with infected skin or bodily lesions, like those in the mouth or on genitals. The incubation period of MPV is usually from 6 to 13 days but can range from 5 to 21 days.
Mpox was declared as Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) in July 2022 by WHO, and was declared once again in August 2024.
