Intended Use

This reagent kit is intended for the in vitro quantitative determination of glutamate dehydrogenase activity in human serum.

Glutamate dehydrogenase (GLDH) is primarily located in the mitochondrial matrix of cells. Its concentration is highest in the liver, followed by the kidneys, pancreas, brain, small intestine mucosa, and the heart.

As a mitochondrial enzyme in the liver, GLDH serves as an indicator of hepatocellular necrosis. When used in conjunction with aminotransferases, it can help assess the severity of liver damage. Elevated GLDH levels are observed in a variety of liver diseases, especially those involving significant hepatocellular injury, such as alcoholic liver disease, acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and obstructive jaundice.
